Norris is a special talent, all McLaren needs to do now is nail the 2022 regulations and Norris could become a consistent podium finisher. He has finished in the points in all but two races and even got himself onto the podium four times. With the talent of Daniel Ricciardo in the paddock alongside him, Norris has outshone his experienced counterpart. The Bristol-born racer is no longer the fresh-faced rookie on the grid but a driver consistently pushing for podiums. If it is possible to have a coming-of-age season in F1 then this was Lando Norris’. Lando Norris – McLaren 9/10 Lando Norris has outshone his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. He has finished in the points in all but four races and this consistent output means Ferrari were able to finish third in the constructors’ championship ahead of McLaren. There is no doubting his talent but at 32, time is running out for Ricciardo to achieve his stated goal of challenging for a world title.Īside from a heartbreak in his home race of Monaco which saw him fail to start having taken pole, Charles Leclerc has quietly enjoyed a strong season. He has found it difficult to adjust his driving style to the McLaren and even with a full campaign behind him, it is unclear if he has truly mastered it. Daniel Ricciardo – McLaren 6/10 Despite his win at Monza, Ricciardo has struggled at McLaren. A podium in Azerbaijan was the peak of a campaign which included points scoring in more than half the races. One of the highest compliments an AlphaTauri driver can achieve is being linked with a move to Red Bull and while that bridge may have been burned for Pierre Gasly, his performances this season have deserved the speculation. He earned his first podium in seven years in Qatar to cap a fine return to the track. A prime example of this came in Hungary where he expertly held off Hamilton so that his teammate Ocon could achieve victory. The driver who some claim is the most naturally talented on the track returned to the sport and showed glimpses of his ability. On the track, he earned the first podium of his career at the washed-out Belgian Grand Prix and has contributed to Williams earning a respectable 23 points. The story of George Russell’s season mostly took place off the track as, following months of speculation, it was confirmed he would be partnering Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2022. George Russell – Williams 7.5/10 2021 was Russell’s final season at Williams with the Brit joining Mercedes next year. Even at the age of 42, he showed he still had some left in the tank though as he earned the final four points of his career 1,873 in Mexico. Far from the positions he used to call home, Kimi Räikkönen has been forced to fight for rare points at the back of the grid. The 2007 world champion bowed out with a total of 10 points for the season. With Russell’s departure, Latifi has an opportunity to become the number one driver at Williams in 2022. For the rest of the season though, he often played second fiddle to Mercedes-bound George Russell.
